The Kelly Foundation is non-profit (501 c3) corporation committed exclusively to the service of substance abuse education and treatment. Foundation funds are used for development, production and distribution of educational materials and training aids for counselors as well as for individuals in recovery, supporting treatment centers, and informing the public about the treatment of alcoholism and substance abuse.

Joe was a visionary mainly because he was relegated to intense solitary studying and meditating on the Big Book with strong guidance of his sponsor. This was as a result of him being the first black man in AA in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1962. He could attend the meetings because of Tradition Three, however, he couldn’t fellowship or drink the coffee.
This fact brings me to this statement: AA has two components “The Program” and the “Fellowship”. Joe not only saw this but saw the formula of a treatment program.
A Program is a sequence of ideas that lead to a conclusion. A sequence is paramount to learning and change. That’s how we learn as human beings. Everything is a sequential order. Example: A baby crawls, stands up slowly, steps and eventually walks. Same as talking. No one comes out the womb walking and talking. All this is achieved through gradation and sequence.
Joe developed Recovery Dynamics using units of time, 28 Group Sessions designed to be conducted by trained counselors in residential treatment facilities for those suffering from addiction.
